LaMarche Quits as Spokesperson, cites "Moral Failings and Disreputable Conduct"

Just four months after she was hired with much fanfare, Pat LaMarche quit last week as spokesperson for the proposed Oxford County casino effort.  LaMarche, the failed Green Party gubernatorial and U.S. Vice Presidential candidate, sharply criticized the leadership of the casino effort in her resignation press release.  

Mainers will be asked to approve this gambling venture in November.  Rumford attorney Seth Thomas Carey continues to lead the effort, despite facing possible disbarment from the Grievance Commission of the Board of Overseers of the Bar for admitted unethical behavior in other legal cases.

LaMarche, herself a convicted drunken driver, said she quit as spokesperson so she would no longer have to "hide moral failings and disreputable conduct" associated with the leadership of the proposed casino.

League director Mike Heath was looking forward to meeting LaMarche for the first time on September 24.  He was scheduled to debate her in Oxford County.  "Pat is a colorful public figure.  I was looking forward to mixing it up with her on the issue of gambling."

The League has helped Maine communities remain free from the temptation of casino gambling for over a century.  "This leadership failure is just one more reason for Maine citizens to thoughtfully consider the profoundly negative consequences of casino gambling," said Heath.
