Washington, DC – An anti-life group calling itself Catholics for Choice (CFFC) has issued a 25-page assault on the Catholic League, a civil rights organization dedicated to defending religious freedom and free speech.
In response to the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's landmark encyclical "Humanae Vitae" July 25, CFFC has launched this latest in a series of attacks on Catholic doctrine as promulgated by 20 centuries of Church teaching.
"How dare they call themselves Catholics?" asked Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "CFFC is a hate group, and it's easy to see their anti-Catholic agenda in this latest bit of vitriol against an encyclical that beautifully affirmed the sanctity of life and marriage lived in accordance with the faith."
CFFC President Jon O'Brien is clear in his disdain for Church authority:
"The past 40 years have been marked by a hardening of the Vatican's opposition to contraception, including condoms, at the very time that the world has moved to a different… view of sexuality," O'Brien said in a release.
"He's right," Brown responded. "The Church will not change on contraception because she stands for an unchanging and timeless truth people like O'Brien cannot comprehend. Contraception has ushered in not only the unspeakable evil of abortion, but the destruction of the family and a culture of selfish individualism. Thank God the Church has stood strong against this 'view of sexuality.' Contraception has led to death."
The group's attack on the Catholic League comes on the heels of their July 21 demand that Catholic bishops reject "Humanae Vitae" and instead embrace contraception.
