As we all took the time to celebrate America's birthday, Cindy Sheehan, the world’s premiere anti-war mother, continues to cry what some suggest are politically motivated tears over the death of her hero son, Casey Sheehan. I am of the opinion that Sheehan has used her son's death as an excuse to continually be in the spotlight in order to promote her radical-left ideology.
Sheehan has been all over the map, spewing her anti-American words, even traveling to the social “paradise” of Venezuela to commiserate with fellow traveler Hugo Chavez, and then to Cuba, to visit the northern hemispheres’ longest surviving communist, Fidel Castro.
Mrs. Sheehan does so as our troops put their lives on the line everyday in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Sheehan’s words sound ridiculous except possibly to the ears of Congressman John Murtha and Senator John Kerry. Indeed. The far left in America--and the mainstream media--simply adore this at once tragic yet shameless woman.
Mainstream Americans view the left in this country as unwise, and dangerous. The Democrats, who claim to play the part of the loyal opposition, are more like hostile dissenters trying to wear down the country's resolve. They put a strain on America’s safety, and it’s will to fight the war on terror.
The New York Times is a stark example of the Democratic hard-left run amuck. The Times have wrongfully exposed America's secret legal programs that are being used to help protect the nation. They have acted in a political--and some say--treasonous fashion.
Army Spc. Casey Sheehan reenlisted to serve his country. It's obvious that Mrs. Sheehan did not support her son for being "the best that he could be" by the way she continues to denigrate Casey's memory by soiling the country he so proudly served.
Casey Sheehan, age 24, of Vacaville, California, died in Baghdad, Iraq, on April 4, 2004, when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, and 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas. Casey went to Iraq to help finish the job and stay the course of freeing a country. He believed in the mission as laid out by President George W. Bush. (www.militarycity.com/valor/257123.html )
As an agenda-driven media predictably fawned and poured all over Cindy Sheehan, they failed to report how family members felt about her anti-war and America-hating political views. Her husband, realizing that his marriage was nothing more than a memory, eventually divorced Cindy. Others in the family openly admitted that they had a dysfunctional relationship with her. In a statement widely reported all over the Internet, Cindy’s family stated that they do not support her in any way. People who have loved ones that die while fighting in the military, grieve their losses. They do not demean other families with outrageous words and unseemly behavior. Real patriots show great nobility, and share memories of the troops with dignity and pride.
Many Blue and Gold Star families are incensed by the failure on the media's part to give them the attention they deserve. To the casual observer, the media is more prone to interview radicals such as Sheehan and portraying her as a peacemaker. The media needs to highlight the heroes and their families.
Yes, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan died for an honorable cause, but Sheehan discredits all men and women in the service by inferring that "they know not what they do." The troops and their families do not appreciate these words any more than what Cindy Sheehan stands for.
Sheehan took her insults one step beyond the pale when she formed her own anti-war group with a similar name, "Gold Star Families for peace." Her organization is similar in nature to that of John Kerry's anti-war group formed during the Vietnam War era. The fact is that Cindy Sheehan was a radical leftist before Casey’s death. She continues to aid and abet our enemies in a reckless fashion, even by the simple act of never calling them terrorists. In practice, Sheehan stands against her own country.
Casey Sheehan died for freedom's legacy. If he could reach out to his wayward mother, he would probably ask her to stop engaging herself with strange political bedfellows, including the communists Code Pink organization. (www.frontpagemag.com/articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=6878 )
Code Pink is notorious for protesting the troops outside of Walter Reed Army Medical Center--by picketing and chanting anti-war slogans against recuperating service men and women. Sheehan actively participates in this organization.
The AP reported more of Sheehan's doings in USA Today on July 4:
CARACAS, Venezuela — Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who set up camp near President Bush's Texas ranch last summer, said Saturday she is considering running against Sen. Dianne Feinstein to protest what she called the California lawmaker's support for the war in Iraq.
”She voted for the war. She continues to vote for the funding. She won't call for an immediate withdrawal of the troops,” Sheehan told The Associated Press in an interview while attending the World Social Forum in Venezuela along with thousands of other anti-war and anti-globalization activists.
"I think our senator needs to be held accountable for her support of George Bush and his war policies,' said Sheehan, whose 24-year-old soldier son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.
Feinstein's campaign manager, Kam Kuwata, said the senator “doesn't support George Bush and his war policies.”
“She has stated publicly on numerous occasions that she felt she was misled by the administration at the time of the vote,” Kuwata said by phone from California.
"But with troops committed, Feinstein believes immediate withdrawal is not a responsible option, Kuwata said.
“Senator Feinstein's position is, let's work toward quickly turning over the defense of Iraq to Iraqis so that we can bring the troops home as soon as possible. (www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,183108,00.html)
The brave Blue and Gold Star Mothers have conveyed their total displeasure of the media coverage and that of Cindy Sheehan. If they could, many of the mothers would like to tell Sheehan a thing or two. This misguided woman's folly has caused them--and many in the country--a great deal of pain and concern.
