Looking Through The Republican-Democrat Looking-Glass

Every student of literature recognizes Alice’s looking-glass as a portal to comical absurdity, literary nonsense and odd contrasts, including a world of opposites.

As I look at the looking-glass between the Republican and Democratic worlds, I find just these traits as well.  Rather than go through a litany of these differences, all well known to any conservative in tune with current events, I will confine myself to three contrasting opposites which perfectly distinguish the Republican and Democratic worlds.

Charlton Heston vs. George Clooney and  The Infotainment Liberals

I have come to believe that one of the surest signs of a person’s greatness is the level of dislike directed at said person from the liberal entertainment and media establishment.

This is best exemplified by the fact that the liberal Hollywood airhead George Clooney once made fun of Heston’s Alzheimer’s disease and, when Heston criticized him for the remark, Clooney said, “I don’t care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association. He deserves whatever anyone says about him.'”     http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=75169  So much for liberals’ pathetic pretense of sensitivity and nobility.  I would not be surprised if Clooney has spoken at liberal fundraisers for one illness or another, where I am sure he refrains from making jokes about those afflicted with said illness.  It is all a show for liberals like Clooney.  They never stop pretending to be all the things they contradict everyday.

Charlton Heston was a great actor, a courageous activist, a defender of the pro-life position and of public decency, a loving father and husband and a great man.  By showing such abominable disrespect for a legendary Hollywood figure simply because he disagreed with his political views, George Clooney reminded us of just how cowardly, hypocritical and despicable Hollywood’s liberal elite can be.  Neither is this vile bias lost on the liberal media elite, as shown by Barbara Walters and her cronies calling Heston “controversial” and discounting his character because they disagreed with his views.

On one hand we have a great man of great character and many virtues boldly, publicly and proudly representing what conservatism is truly about.  On the other side of the looking-glass we have hypocrites, biased frauds and arrogant cowards disrespecting and discounting his true worth simply because he stood for things that they dislike.  Look far and wide for an instance where Mr. Heston disrespected his liberal colleagues, many as there have been.  You will look for a long time with no success.

Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan vs. FDR and The Clintons

Republicans should be proud of what Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan represented.

These great presidents stood for decency, courage and respect for our traditions and heritage.  They embodied the basic morality and depth of the true American spirit that made this nation the greatest on earth.

Both men tore down walls, be they of slavery or communism, and stood at the forefront of precisely why Republican ideals will always reflect America’s greatness and promise America’s potential.  They took responsibility and accepted accountability for their words and actions, and had the courage of their convictions to stand firmly behind those words and actions.  They represent the very best that America can be, and the very essence of America’s transcendental greatness.

FDR is surely placed high on presidential lists along with Lincoln, but many argue that his legacy is tarnished by allegations of anti-Semitism, racism and backdoor manipulations concealed by charismatic rhetoric.  There are those who are troubled by his passivity regarding The Holocaust, and others who point to his knowing acceptance of KKK members among his appointments.  I will not argue that FDR did not do some good for this country on some levels, but I suspect that his charm, charisma and rhetoric concealing a darker, Machiavellian interior motive and strategy set the stage for the Clintons, that duet of duplicity that represents modern Democratic politics today.

Neither will I bore you with all of the often-mentioned allegations, accusations, scandals and lies that have followed the Clintons from Arkansas to Washington.  If ever there was  a marriage of ruthless ambition, selfish manipulation, arrogant deception and Machiavellian cunning, the Clintons have it.

On one hand we have two leaders who personified courageous dedication to morality-and-values-driven leadership and conviction, who respected the dignity of life and rejected the view of many in their society that one class of humans was sub-human, who stood at the front lines in tearing down walls of ignorance and who represented honesty and integrity in their duties.

On the other hand, we have leaders whose proficient charisma, tantalizing rhetoric and sheer, ruthless ambition carried them to undeserved levels of power, influence and impact on American society. In typical manner, this superficial and deluded society often honors the ability to appear noble over genuine nobility, the ability to appear sincere over genuine sincerity and the ability to manipulate over the intention to serve.

Michelle Malkin vs. Lisa Ling

To demonstrate that the conservative-liberal looking-glass reaches into every level imaginable, I present two American female journalists of Asian descent who could not be further apart in the kind of journalism they practice.

On one hand we have Michelle Malkin, college graduate, conservative columnist, author and political commentator.  Ms. Malkin’s rise to the top of her craft has been fueled by talent, drive and consistently courageous, accurate and powerful observations of the hypocrisy, inconsistency and blatantly counter-productive American Left.  In column after column and book after book, Malkin has torn apart the pretenses and lies perpetuated by the liberal elite revealing a pathetic and often unpatriotic interior.  She has been praised, for example, for her forceful response to the words of another Michelle, Barack Obama’s wife, regarding her lack of pride for this country.  Perhaps the greatest compliment that can be directed at Malkin is the assurance that she is despised by liberals everywhere while admired and respected by most conservatives and those who truly love this country and what it stands for.

On the other hand, we have Lisa Ling, high school graduate, liberal and so-called journalist whose rise has been fueled by such bastions of journalistic integrity as The View and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Ling’s brand of investigative journalism on the Winfrey Show includes glorifying female homicide bombers, selectively bashing Christians over Muslims over Polygamy, praising “the great life” Cuban women have, accusing President Bush of racism regarding Katrina while she practiced it herself during the report and getting her belly-button pierced along with kissing Meredith Viera on The View.  http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2008/03/schlussel_v_opr.html  In typical liberal fashion, Ling blamed America for the 9/11 attacks, and generally follows the Leftist line that most bad things can be placed on the feet of this country sooner or later.

Two American women of Asian descent, each considered a famous journalist, but the similarity ends at the looking-glass.

Conclusion

The looking-glass has many representations in popular literature and media.  Seinfeld called it Bizarro World, in honor of Seinfeld’s own love for Superman concepts.

This is the world of opposites, where down is up and up is down, smart is stupid and stupid is smart and, above all, where left is considered right, directionally.

Call it nonsense, call it bizarre or call it whatever you wish, but it is real, for you need only look at the examples above to see a society where, more often than not, down is up, up is down, smart is stupid, stupid is smart, character is controversial, controversy is cool, nobility is selfish, selfishness is noble, sincerity is manipulative, manipulation is sincere, patriotism is treasonous, treason is patriotic, morality is immoral, immorality is moral and left is considered the right way to think, politically, socially and every other way you can think of.

I do not know about you, but give me Heston, Lincoln, Reagan and Malkin over their pathetic liberal counterparts any day of the week.
